Currently, KOI is privately employee owned.
KOI is located in Fishkill, New York, with a fully equipped laboratory for liquid crystal material processing and optics testing. KOI has a ^field office ̄ near Kent State University in the state of Ohio.
KOI started formal operation in April 2000 when it received its first SBIR contract. Up to date, the company has received totally a dozen of funding from the US government through SBIR and STTR programs. The US Army, Air Force, MDA and NSF are our main customers and sponsors. In addition, KOI has several industry partners for liquid crystal based product development and commercialization.
KOI¨s core competencies are in basic, applied research and engineering as well as prototype development, which will lead to future products on the markets. The company strength is in high technology development in the field of optical components based on liquid crystal and other related materials.
The company has three laboratories: optics lab, class 100 clean room, and liquid crystal processing station.
Our main activities include technology development and product prototyping for industry partners and customers. For quick production engineering, marketing and sales, and customer service we partner with companies that are already strong in those areas. Our company¨s industry partners include Illume LLP, Polytronix, and a European company.
Due to the success in both government and commercial businesses, KOI has grown up to a size of a dozen employees, including six Ph.D. scientists in liquid crystals and optics (including laser optics) and four engineers in electronics, material, and chemistry. They are highly capable and well experienced in basic and applied research and engineering.
Our management team is led by Dr. Le Li, the CEO of the company. He has had proven track-of-record in R&D, corporate management, fundraising, product development and commercialization. .
The company business is steadily growing and profitable. So far, the company revenue is healthy with incomes from both commercial projects and government contracts. Its intellectual property position is strong via patent application and trade secret protection. |
